Globe Help Please

I have been trying to dig up some information about the globe motors used in the KitOfParts and thanks to Karthik was able to get as far as the data sheet and the specs. BUT I am unable to find any retailer for is motor and so I was wondering if anybody knows any similar motors made by Globe with around the same size and shape and with more, less, or equal power. If you can help me I would greatly appreciate it.

The model number for the globe motor is - 409A587 and you can view the specs I have on it by clicking here.

Thank you for your help,

Pavan.

Re: Globe Help Please

Years ago I contacted Globe about the motors. Apparently the motors donated to FIRST have a unique part number indicating they are "for educational purposes". They are probably re-numbered versions of another motor Globe produces, but I don't know which one. Good luck figuring it out.

Re: Globe Help Please

Pavan,
As so many manufacturers have done, Globe allows you to couple a specific motor and a specific gearbox. You just have to look at the specs and by them separate and then couple them together. Remember for our motor, Globe leaves the mounting flange off our part. We know that the gearbox is a 117:1 reduction, the motor is .98 oz/in of torque no load and the no load speed is 79.87 RPM calculated. Working backwards 117 x 79.87 is about 3950 RPM for the no load motor speed and stall current of 21 amps. You ought to be able to use that data to determine a motor and gear box.

Re: Globe Help Please

In the 2007 Good Practices paper (http://www2.usfirst.org/2007comp/other/2007%20Guidelines_Tips_Good%20Practices_RevC.pdf), the Globe Motor is described as being used for "4WD/2WD transfer mtr." A little search on Wikipedia revealed that this motor would be found in the transfer case of an automobile to shift between 4 wheel drive and 2 wheel drive. And Globe Motors makes transfer case actuator motors, but does not let you use this in a product description search. However, this information might help you find some leads.

Re: Globe Help Please

Pavan,

I came across your blog about Globe Motors part number 409A587.

A released drawing does not exist for this part number, so it was a special number created for a non-production opportunity.

The motor/gearbox that you are referring to, as defined in this part number, is actually part of an assembly that can be found on a large share of active four wheel drive transfer cases on four wheel drive vehicles around the world.

If you can explain in detail why you need such a motor to my satisfaction, perhaps I can manage to get one in your hands.
