Re: average score

Sorry to bump an old thread, but what IS the interpretation of having an exceptionally high or low average ranking points score?

Here is my thinking:
High ranking points score implies that you either tended to lose, but went down fighting, or you tended to win, but your opponents still tended to be effective. Essentially, your matches tended to be close.

A low ranking points score might mean that you tend to lose and rarely score points, or you are a very powerful team that tends to blow out their opponents such that they never score any points.
Edit: (Thanks IndySam) - Or you were a strong defensive team that always kept your opponents to a low score.

Is this correct? I probably got the winning side wrong, since I'm unsure of the scoring mechanism for that.

I watched 1565 at GTR, and they always tended to score 3-4 ringers per match, but were always just barely outclassed by their opponents.

Or you were a very good defensive team that held your opponents to a low score when you won.

If they keep RP as the tiebreaker I don't think we will build another defensive robot. You can build a great effective bot but the RP really handicaps you in the rankings

I remember last year, in order to give themselves good ranking points, it wasn't uncommon for a team to score balls for the opposing alliance to prevent those ownage matches. If I remember right, in one match, a team scored in the opponents goal, and had their score within a couple points of theirs, finished the match, but had a 10 point penalty called on them for some reason and lost the match...

Re: average score

Gonna' have to go back to usfirst.org before september to check something, I see.

We were the top 5 scoring robots, scoring between 2-5 tubes per match, but because of lots of penalties in our alliance (don't like to point blaming fingers, but we followed all the rules, except for one mistake we made, and in the other matches we lost our other alliance team made a penalties) we reached last palce in the ranking, but were chosen for the elimination rounds.

The qualification rounds average is 13.09

including the quarter and semi final matches, 20.94
