CalGames seeking another game announcer!

Once again we are seeking another game announcer for our 2007 Northern California Games! David Black, aka. Sanddrag already agreed to be our main game announcer, but we are looking for another to do double play-by-play, and also let David get some breaks in between.

We are looking at an exciting event with 30 teams all registered 8 weeks before the event. This is the biggest event WRRF has ever organized, with lots of exciting matches and free food for volunteers, and we are looking for any game announcer (as well as any volunteers to fill the other positions) who happens to be in the Bay Area on October 12-13.

If you want to work side by side with our MC, Mark Leon, now is your chance!

Evan, thanks for volunteer in this. I suppose I should clarify how this is going to work.

Over the years CalGames has become an important event to the Bay Area teams and those of us planning are really serious about putting up a quality event. And you would agree when I say that the game announcer is key in making an event successful.

However! CalGames is also a community event, and as such, we try to involve the community every step of the way. We use it as a training ground for FIRST events, and if folks want to try out to be game announcer, referee, inspector, team queuing, field supervising, we are all for providing that opportunity.

So, here is how I think we will do it. With David as our main announcer, we will have interested folks try out in the morning during the qualifying rounds. If you are really good at this, we will keep you as the second announcer for the finals. Either way, it will be a good opportunity to try out for this job.

It will also be really helpful if you can tell us whether you have done this before.

Bare in mind we are hardly the robotics version of American Idol. We are not going to put you on the spot and judge you ;-).

Qualifying rounds are on the 12th?

I've never announced for an "official" FRC event before, but I've announced for 3 FLL tournaments over the past 4 years, and helped at a few VEX events, as well narrated upwards of 10 FRC robot demos.

Setup all day Friday. We will begin qualifying matches 9am Saturday morning. Probably need all volunteers to sign in around 7:30am.

Just a reminder, we are still looking for anyone interested in giving game announcing a try. This will be a good chance to train for this job. Who knows, a few off-seasons later, you might find yourself working at the regionals .
