3ds Max Z-Axis not working!

First of all: Yes, I've already searched for the topic, No, i haven't found anything, though i certainly hope this has been posted before
On to business,
I'm part of my schools animation team, but I've encountered a problem which severely limits my productivity: the Z-axis won't work when moving an object, scaling it, etc. Naturally, this has made life difficult.

Has anyone encountered/fixed this problem? Help would be appreciated.

Below is a screenshot, as you can see, the Z-axis is not highlighted when you click on the box. Help pls!

Re: 3ds Max Z-Axis not working!

lol, so many times have my students been stumped on that problem. So your move tool or any other manipulation tool isnt appearing eh? While animating you must of accidentaly hit "X" on the keyboard. This is a short key to make the move tools dissapear for some reason. I dont know the reason or logic for this, I guess its either to make sure that someone doesnt accidently move a object or just to cause pain for people learning max.

If hitting "X" doesnt help then the only other thing is the locks on the Hiarchy tab in the command pannel. Make sure all of the boxes are unchecked.

LOL, No problem. That situation you were in is the number one problem that occurs with my students when they are first starting max.

My suggestion to everyone who is using any complex program, (like 3ds max) is to learn the keybord short cuts. Make some flash cards and quiz yourself. This is the fastest way to learn a program cause it will teach you things you didnt know about the program. Also keybord short cuts will cut down on your time because your not using your mouse to click into every little menu.
