Re: Airsoft vs. Paintball?

Personally, I prefer paintball. However, I haven't had much experience with Airsoft, except for messing around with some friends with our cheapo pistols.

There's nothing as satisfying as painting half someone's body orange during a speedball match.

Re: Airsoft vs. Paintball?

Paintball is about 10x better in my opinion, although that may be (at least in part) because of it's greater popularity resulting in more fields, competitors, and friends who play. Although the satisfaction of watching a paintball explode on someone's goggles is hard to beat.

Re: Airsoft vs. Paintball?

Reasons I like paintball:
- no significant amount of pain if you're playing normally (point blank obviously hurts, but distance is just a little sting)
- your opponents get covered in your paint
- it was around first

Reasons to like airsoft:
- the guns look real

... my vote is for paintball

Re: Airsoft vs. Paintball?

Paintball by far. But only when played on a waivered field with qualified referees enforcing all safety rules.

Rogue paintball is not smart.

Putting in a vote for Airsoft. Less mess, more pain and fun.

Not to mention he wasn't wearing goggles. Luckily I don't this his gun was chronoed that high, as it didn't seem like there was any significant damage.

Re: Airsoft vs. Paintball?

Team 118 had a bonding event at a local Paintballing place. We had a bunch of students and mentors play for a few hours. Unfortunately I was at the SAT, but apparently it was fun and we might be doing it again soon.

Re: Airsoft vs. Paintball?

Just goes to show- The 4 golden rules of firearm safety apply to just about anything with a barrel and trigger.

1. All guns are always loaded. Always. The exception is after you have visually inspected the chamber and magazine and both are clear. Rule one applies again the moment the gun leaves your hands.

2. Never let the muzzle cover anything you aren't willing to destroy.

3. Keep your finger off the trigger until your sights are on target.

4. Be sure of your target and what is beyond it. Never fire at movement, sounds or shadows. Never fire unless you know where the bullet will end up.

The kid with the paint ball gun was breaking all four rules. Not surprisingly, he got hurt. If he didn't loose an eye he is a very, very lucky kid.

I don't really like either. Paintball because it's painful, and airsoft because I think it engenders a lack of respect for firearm safety and a false sense of security. I've seen a few kids showing up at my local range with their first gun and little or no safe handling habits. But they all seem to be able to discuss the fine points of airsoft and 'tactics'. Mostly they just muzzle sweep the line and miss the backstop. It's kind of scary.

I prefer 'the real thing'. If nothing else, it's a heck of a lot louder.

Yeah, amen to this. I go skeet shooting now and then with my dad, I'd take one round of that over an intense airsoft/paintball battle any day.

Re: Airsoft vs. Paintball?

Myself and others on our team play airsoft. Mainly because we started off with cheap guns and then started upgrading. When we play we usually have about 10 to 20 people. I enjoy it because its more mil-sim.

Re: Airsoft vs. Paintball?

my vote is for paintball
when we get people to go play, we seem to get more interest for that haha. and i think it's a bit less inexpensive so we get more people - but i guess it depends where ya go and how much ya shoot. but i personally prefer paintball
