So last year I was able to convince my schools principle to allow the teachers in my school to wear green (624's colors) in exchange for an extra jeans day (teachers in my school only get to wear jeans on friday)
but this year the LSR regional occurs on spring break so I have a different Idea. I am thinking of creating a worksheet or packet that the physics students could fill out for extra credit. I have good relations with our schools administration so convincing them should not be too much of a problem. But what I need is suggestions for questions on the worksheet. I am starting this thread early so that I have room to work on other projects like the videos or scouting sheets. So for right now don't give any suggestions for questions about the game until the game is released. So what questions should I put on there? I am thinking of putting questions that the students could answer by either watching the game or could answer by asking the teams at the regional. But keep in mind that they should be able to answer all of them in 1 day without having to stay for the whole regional. but if you want to suggest bonus questions like "who won the chairmans award at the regional" thats okay. If you are wondering about the students having to travel far to get to the regional, don't worry our school is less than 15 miles from the location of the regional. And with that I am ready for your suggestions. I will take each into consideration. Also suggestions about the worth of the assignement are welcome as well. Please dont hesitate to comment. Re: Possible extra credit assignement
So, this is extra credit for physics students to attend the regional?
Don't require them to know anything, it should be simple enough that just being present lets them answer the questions. Or so simple that asking any FIRSTer would get an answer (ie; weight limit, match time, who is dean kamen). |

Re: Possible extra credit assignement
A few suggested questions:
--What is the game object? --How long is a match (including autonomous), and how many robots are on the field at a time? --What is the number and name of one rookie team? --How many teams are at the regional? --How does scoring work? --What is the name of the game? These could be answered by watching one or two matches, then spending half an hour in the pits (or stands). |

Re: Possible extra credit assignement
Have actual physics equasions too that deal with robots. ... Its physics extra credit, make the earn it!

Re: Possible extra credit assignement
Example physics questions from previous games:
Calculate the change in potential energy associated with lifting a 120 lb robot 30 inches. Calculate the necessary angle and velocity to get a ball into the goal from x meters away. Calculate the friction between a robot and the ramp (from aim high) with a made up coefficient of friction. Calculate the power it would take to for one robot to push another robot a given distance. Bonus: how long would the battery last if all you did was push. etc. These wouldn't necessarily require attending the regional, but like Pavan said, they would force the students to do physics. |

Re: Possible extra credit assignement
Make the worksheet involve asking teams in the pits about their robots.
What's the Amp-Hour rating of the battery? What is the primary motor used by teams? What is the name of the programming language used on the robots? |
