Incredible...just incredible

Incredible...just incredible... CMU link
That is my daughter's current away message with the link to this. My wife and I watched it together and agree completely. This should be seen by everyone.

This really should be located in the Forum for Math and Science, General Forum or somewhere where everyone will see it. Chit chat does not usually show up in the portal.

[edit] Thanks for moving this to the General Forum

Thanks to Luke for posting this on the DC Robotics mail list.

Randy, who is dying from pancreatic cancer, gave his last
lecture at the university Sept 18, 2007,titled "Really Achieving Your
Childhood Dreams."During the lecture, hetalked about his lessons
learned and gave advice to students on how to achieve their own career
and personal goals. The lecture has become quite popular on the
internet and the Wall Street Journal has written an article about him.
He has also been on Good Morning America and chosen as Person of the
Week by ABC World news.

Re: Randy Pausch Lecture Video

I had the pleasure of watching this last night. Here is how I found it on my own:

I was looking for books to read on Amazon and I came across this book
on their top seller list:
http://www.amazon.com/Last-Lecture-R...MMJD3BSP9N4MTM

It seemed a good book, but I was skeptical, so I read some of the user
reviews, and sure enough the most helpful critical review said the
lecture was great, but the book is just a book. So I went and look
for his actual last lecture on Youtube. Took a few tries, but here it
is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ji5_MqicxSo. I tried to go into
it with an opened mind.

You don't need an opened mind to watch this lecture. Great stories,
great lessons, very easy to get through. And very important to take
the time to get through. I imagine most people have heard of this by
now, but this is just in case you haven't.

76 mins 26 and secs of Randy Pausch, and it's worth spending every second.

Re: Randy Pausch Lecture Video

He is so amazing, I love listening to his lectures. Here is a link to his lecture on time management.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oTugjssqOT0
It was the one that he thought he would be remembered for before the Last Lecture became so wide spread. He had it taped so that his wife and kids would be able to have it after he was gone. It isn't as deep and touching as the Last Lecture, but it is really good. I learned a lot from it, and he's just as funny in this one as the other one.

Re: Randy Pausch Lecture Video

It is just hitting the news wires that Randy Pausch passed away earlier this morning.

The world was a good place with Randy Pausch in it. He gave a gift to society, at a great personal cost, that many are only just beginning to appreciate. But his "last lecture" and the works that followed it define a legacy that will be known for a very very long time. I hope that everyone touched by his message will help keep it alive.

If you have ever wasted 90 minutes watching junk TV, you should invest 90 minutes on Randy's last Lecture. I did a couple weeks back and it has really made me reflect on my life.

I saw a special on Randy Pausch on I believe Dateline a while back and this guy should be an inspiration to all people. His view of life is so positive. I would have loved to take his class. Rest in peace Randy Pausch, you are an inspiration to many and have made people think.

I've thought about the power of humility. Dr. Pausch is a beautiful example of someone who can impact those around him, large audiences, and future audiences, reaching into, perhaps, tapping into our hidden potential with his views, his wisdom, his knowledge, and his humility. I'm not sure arrogance and bravado have that same type of power when inspiring others. It is something I have thought about.

Here is a link to his personal page at the CMU website. Most of his videos and lecture resources are posted here too.

Dr. Pausch gifted us with lessons that can absolutely help us as educators and people. I absolutely believe that one of the best things we can do to honor his legacy is to continue to help enable the dreams of our students and peers.

Re: Randy Pausch Lecture Video

ABC news has just said that they will be re-airing their ABC Primetime special on Randy Pausch tomorrow evening at 10:00. I might not normally highlight yet another evening news piece, but this one is exceptional. If you have not seen it, I really encourage you to watch and learn more about the person behind the uniquely powerful message in The Last Lecture.
