The metal tabs on the MOSFETS are connected to the center lead (drain). Definitely a hot terminal, with a LOT of current available if shorted out. Be careful with dropped hardware!

: Sounds more like metal flakes, than metal shavings!!!! I wonder if the metal part of the MOSFET is live? The flakes would probably not be good for them at that point. We had what we thought was a bad fan on one of our Victors, turned out to be a lug had fallen into the fan and was impeding its' rotation. Quick removal saved the fan.
