We were there and I remember some of the awards, but don't quote me. We,
The Boeing ComBBAT team won the sportsmanship award. I will have more on that
later. The NASA-KSC SpaceCoast team (#233) won the Rookie All Star
award. The Creativity award went to Baxter Coqui (#15). Either the quality or
the controls award went to Raytehon (#148). That's all my feeble memory
seems to have retained.

Hey yo, hows it going out in FIRST LAND. I have been interested in becoming a coach for my team for quite some time. I'm disapointed to say im at the end of a line of adults. They have alwys done a good job and i have no complaints however i feel that this should be run more student orientatedly. I would like to know how many teams out there have student coaches and whether or not they work out for you.

Check the pain,
Smitty

Steve,

I am the teacher/coach for my team. I can't speak first hand, but if you really want some good info about your question, you should contact the GUNN HIGH Team in CA (#192 I think). I could be wrong, but I got the impression that the students take on a tremendous amount of the responsibilities. I got the impression that the returning students actually take on most of or a lot of the coaching/admin/engineering duties. It was really quite impressive. I was so fooled (not hard since my team & I are all rookies), only after talking to a few of the "coaches" from GUNN - coaches who answered some of our questions and gave us very wise ideas/solutions, did I realize/find out that they were students. Quite humbling for me and also quite impressive as I said. Kind of an inspiration to see the knowledge and responsibility they have gained. I'm curious as to how many other teams are to the point where students can run the ship. (certainly gives our students some high standards to look up to - which I think is great) So my advice would be to call or e-mail the students at GUNN (I think a very impressive student named Brad is actually their coach or co-coach - but they'd be the ones to ask, I'm just speculating.
Good Luck to you in your "coaching" aspirations Steve

P.S. I don't know if "HALL or NASH" could coach a successful team though.

Jason
