CalGames 2007 Volunteer Recognition

This weekend concluded the 6 months of hard work, passion, and sacrifices the entire WRRF and Bay Area FIRST community put into the 2007 Northern California Robot Games.

We couldn't have done it without volunteers. We simply can't. Just to show a glimpse of how much work needs to be done to prepare for our competition, take a look at the videos team 100 put together from Friday:

2007 CalGames Timelapses

But what we put in is so much more than that. From our planning meetings to trips to the hardware store, from the field electronics testing during the workshops to the volunteer training session on Saturday morning, we mobilize hundred of people to work together as a team.

It really takes an army of volunteers to organize and run this event. So, please take a moment to look at the list of volunteers who contributed in the past 6 months, so when you see them at the next WRRF workshop, the next Bay Area kickoff, and the next Davis/Silicon Valley Regionals, you can go up to them to shake their hand, and say, "Thank You."

2007 Northern California Robot Games Volunteers, Thank You so much for putting together an incredible event!

I am so proud of the work we put in from the past 6 months, I am so proud of being a part of this community, I hope you are too.

Thank you so much for everything.

Re: CalGames 2007 Volunteer Recognition

Looking back at all that went into the planning and execution of the CalGames 2007 event, I continue to be in awe of the contributions that everyone made to its success. There is one person, in particular, to whom the WRRF, and the larger FIRST robotics community, owes a great debt. As mentioned in the last page of the note of thanks posted above, that everyone should be sure to read, Ken Leung has been the Event Manager for the CalGames for four events. The WRRF had a years hiatus during this time and Ken was a essential to restarting the activity.

The recently completed event included 30 competing teams, the largest number ever for a CalGames event, some coming from as far away as Southern California and Oregon. Ken was the key individual who kept us all organized, resolved a multitude of issues, and personally herded the logistics for the event.

When you next see Ken Leung, be sure to thank him for all that he has done for the WRRF and the FIRST robotics community.

Eugene Brooks
President of the WRRF
