You got some pretty nice recommendations here from CD's own "elves"!

I'd agree with getting a Dell or MacBook, especially the Vostros/Inspiron.

Also have to ditto the avoidance of HP AT ALL COST!!! Bad quality and support, and not a very good deal for your money.
