Team Name Rule

Is there a specific amount of money that your team recieves from a company or corporation that requires you to make them offically part of your team, or is this just set up on a per agreement type thing
like some teams arent just Highschool name, team number, team name , its company, highschool, team number team name, or company company highschool number name,

just wondering if there were rules on that or if it was just something teams set up as a part of agreement

Partnerships with sponsors are part of the primary mission of FIRST (i.e., inspiration and recognition of science and technology) and as such they should be recognized by including the name of the sponsoring organization in the long version of the team name.

FRC rules also encourage such recognition by allowing teams to count only the material cost of parts that are fabricated using labor from recognized sponsoring organizations, when accounting for the total cost of building the robot. For example, the following is excerpted from the 2007 FRC Manual, section 8.3.4.4:
Quote:
<R49> The costs of all non-2007 Kit parts and materials used in the construction of a ROBOT (as defined in Section 8.1.1) must be recorded (in US dollars) by the team, and a list of all such items and their costs presented at ROBOT inspection.

<R50> All costs are to be determined as explained in Section 8.3.4.4 - Additional Parts - Cost Determination. The cost of raw material obtained by a team + the cost of non-team labor expended to have the material processed further.

...

8.3.4.4 Additional Parts - Cost Determination
The "cost" of each additional item is calculated based on the following criteria, as applicable:

...

Labor provided by team members and/or by a recognized team sponsor whose employees are members of the team does not have to be included. Note: it is in the best interests of the teams and FIRST to form relationships with as many organizations as possible. Teams are encouraged to be expansive in recruiting and including organizations in their team, as that exposes more people and organizations to FIRST. Recognizing supporting companies as sponsors of, and members in, the team is encouraged - even if the involvement of the sponsor is solely through the donation of fabrication labor.
(emphasis mine)

I believe in intuition and inspiration. Imagination is more important than knowledge. For knowledge is limited, whereas imagination embraces the entire world, stimulating progress, giving birth to evolution. It is, strictly speaking, a real factor in scientific research.

Re: Team Name Rule

you can 'sell' your team name for whatever you think it could fetch, or just give it to your largest sponsor or all of your sponsors or all of your $500+ sponsors or whatever. no official policy (as far as i know, and after seeing those rules, seems pretty clear)

Just looked up our team Policy.

Quote:
Donations of 5,000 dollars or more will get:
Name of company in team name
Large Logo on Robot
Recognition in Publicity Events
4 tickets to Awards Dinner
Unique GRR Plaque.
Not the exact wording, but thats what we got for us. There are other "divisions" for other amounts, but thats the top one.

We have a similar tier system. The amount that a corporation donates determines how much recognition they will recieve. We also sell ad space on our robot for sponsors that aren't interested in some of the other perks that we offer. The top level sponsorship is 6k+ in which the sponsor becomes part of the team name.

Some of the other stuff we have for lower level sponsors are:
Ad on the side of our trailer
Robot ad space
Patron Book ad space (thanks rolling thunder for the patron book idea!)
Invitation to team award events

Jacob

Re: Team Name Rule

You need to be careful about branding your team with a name that might not be ideal next year.

Make sure you acknowledge you sponsors in TIMS. That way any official printed materials will show your sponsors names.
