Tri-Alliances?

I have a question for all of the teams that went to the MI regional. In the tri-ally format were you guys able to switch partners match to match or only round to round? The reason that I ask is that, speaking from a strat. position, I think that being able to switch match to match would be a strategic nightmare. You would have teams throwing in their defensive ally at the last second to foil the strat of the opposeing alliance. Just wondering?

Teams have the option to change match to match.

DID I MISS SOMETHING???!?!?!

Since when does an alliance consist of 3 teams? I would greatly appreciate
it if someone filled me in on how we got to 3 teams in an alliance. Also
how fair to the rest of us at other regionals who only had 1 other team?!
From reading some of the messages here it seems FIRST is having a consitency
problem.

Thanks,

Justin

The rule was changed for the Great lakes regional last weekend. Apparently
it hasn't been decided whether the new format will be used in Orlando.

I personally don't see how this affects teams who participated in the
other reginals in any way. I've seen a number of people claim that
changing the format is unfair to those who competed in other regionals.
Perhaps someone could elaborate on why this is so?

I don't see the change as a "consistency problem", but rather a reaction
to problems which were noted in some of the other regional contests.
I applaud FIRST for being willing to change the contest in order to
fix (or attempt to fix, depending on your point of view) the problems.

- Jerry

I can only speak for myself, but I think what people mean is that in their respective regional they were only alotted one partner. In some cases their partner might have broken down and they did not have the option of putting in a third alliance partner. At least that is what I think.

I agree with you Jerry, It doesn't affect the results of the other regionals, because the regionals don't have binding power upon anything except for themselves. I won't start crying foul until the results of the regionals decide who goto the nationals.
