It all depends on how short your hair is. If it's fairly short you just need a dying brush and someone who can draw out the logo with the brush and dye. I have no suggestions for long hair, I've only dyed long hair once and that was for an offseason it's show below.

The guy on left, would still be considered too long to do with a dying brush.

Re: Crazy Hair

I have spent a lot of time colouring my hair. I have found it very difficult to put patterns on my hair. My hair is not short. I think that the shorter the hair, the easier to do. All my colourings are done now with spray colours as it is easier to blend.

One time, for our team we had black dye and then turquoise 4 designs on the back of heads.

Simple shapes that are bold are easy to stencil and spray hair dye stuff are easiest to use and blend like Steve said.

edit: For that, the shorter the hair, the easier it is to spray a design on, because with longer lengths, the hair will move out of place, later distorting the design.

Re: Crazy Hair

I've seen people put some kind of paint in their (long) hair, that keeps the back stiff like a large flat sheet. Then any design can be painted on top of the base color.

I don't remember where I saw it, sorry.

Re: Crazy Hair

Leav,
If your hair is like it shows in your WAI, you could shave the symbols into the back and color your hair. It wouldn't take long for the hair to grow back. I've seen that done.

Re: Crazy Hair

If you want to have a brilliant rich hair experience don't do the spray on stuff or do it at home. Get a professional salon to do it and you can get this result.

I'll have to disagree with that statement, but then again I have a couple years of expierence in doing this kind of stuff. lol

For my bright Orange Hair in 2006 & 2007 I bleached my hair (almost to an extent of being white) (Me on the right : http://www.chiefdelphi.com/media/photos/24904 ) & then added some great spray on color stuff called: "Streaks & Tips Temporary Highlight Spray Color - Neon Orange."
I found it at a Beauty Supply store one of my other team mates bought some hair glue at and it works wonders... It washes right out with water and shampoo at the end of the day which is a plus for going back to work or school after competitions as well. lol And don't be fooled by the stuff they sell at halloween to color your hair. It's ok, but it's not as bright as this stuff. This is the brightest orange coloring I have found so far.

This was the result: http://www.chiefdelphi.com/media/photos/24815 (Me on the far right again)
I have a better picture showing the ultra brightness of the coloring I'll have to link later. I can't access facebook to get to my pics from work.

As far as a template, I know in the past I had my hair stylist cut some lightning bolts in my head, but I never thought of coloring it in. (I was like 10 at the time. lol)

If you can get in touch with a person who cuts hair regularly, or as a hobby, they may have some more suggestions. (I'm lucky as my Mom who went to hairdressing school at one time in her life is my consultant nowadays. lol I can do some crazy stuff & get some awesome ideas from her.)

And, one more thing. The bleach @ home kit isn't that hard. They basically give you bleach powder & you add some water. Then you literally paint the bleach on your hair with a paint brish they give you as well.
It does sting your scalp though if you go that far down.
I didn't know that the first time I did it.

Cool Re: Crazy Hair

342 made a bet with the judges and the judges lost. We asked a couple safety judges to dye their hair. One jokingly said, " Do you have information about the chemicals in the dye?" So our safety captain sent all night in her hotel room writing a MSDS for every chemical in the hair dye. She even drafted some of the local chemical engineering students to help. The next day the judges had no choice.

did the sprayed color look ok? did the color look deep or washed out? did it last?

My hair is short (about 0-3mm), and though it is harder to do i'm pretty sure that the brush method is the way to go, because I have a feeling it will have a more vivid color.

It is short and that's a great Idea... together with Elgin's Idea!

That's awesome! but I might go Inverse! cut everything out that I dont want just leave the logo on...

so now I think I have two main options:
  • have my hair real short, then dye it all white and spray/brush the logo in (in both cases using a stencil)
  • shave it all off, except the logo part and color the hair that's left with a brush

the first option would look cooler if it was accomplished successfully I think, but it would be easier to mess up...
the second option would be easier to dye (and cheaper...), but wouldnt have the same effect I think...

I'll have to do a photoshop and see what either choice looks like...

Thanks for the help guys... i'll post the photoshop here when i'm done and you can help me decide..

Re: Crazy Hair

after playing around in photoshop I realized that doing an all white head might be cool, but it won't work with a first logo....
(because the circle is white in the logo)

right now i'm thinking my best bet would be to have my hair at about 1cm (~0.4") and then cut everything away except the first logo and then dye that with a brush....

it would take some fancy shaving but I'll get it done...

here's a pic of the photoshopping... (and Adobe said you couldn't use that as a verb.... hah!)

Thanks for the help and I promise pics.... (and a new WAI probably )

Re: Crazy Hair

I am not a believer in long term hair colour. I change my colour and style daily at events to match my shirts. I have attached 2 photos to show that spray can be colourful. I have almost black hair. I do a base coat of white then let my imagination go wild. Paul C has referred to me as a peacock on steroids.
