IR Receiver 101 web link & an IR based question.

Found a nice link that explains how IR receivers work nicely. I understood it, and I'm not electrically inclined in the least bit. lol
http://www.sbprojects.com/knowledge/ir/ir.htm

And then, I found this link which is an advanced IR receiver/decoder.

I was wondering if this (along with the signal from the RC to the OI - assuming the board with the outputs are connected to PWM cables on the robot) would allow your IR decoding status to be displayed on the OI portion of the system?
Would that even be useful at all for anything?

http://www.sbprojects.com/projects/i...r/hardware.htm

Basically what I'm asking, is if the IR board is used in conjunction with the RC & OI could the digital readout on the OI act as a PIC IR dectector in theory, or in practicality?

Re: IR Receiver 101 web link & an IR based question.

is what your trying say in really really slow terms, mean that the lights on the OI can tell you what (of four types) signal you are receiving from say a game piece??

Re: IR Receiver 101 web link & an IR based question.

Yes, that's what I'm trying to figure out what is possible. lol

Sensor data from IR Receiver > Through the RC as data > to the OI > displayed on the LCD readout via a number/numbers.

Just wondering if this is even possible. Not going to go into it's uses I'm thinking of yet.

Yeah, I'll admit it. I'm a n00b when it comes to electronics. I need to pick myself up a little do-it yourself kit or something @ radio shack to play around with one of these days. lol

Yes. You could display this data on the OI Led's, or the small seven segment display.

Re: IR Receiver 101 web link & an IR based question.

yeah I assumed it would be able to do that, I'm also going to assume it can interact with anything else on the robot (ie Camera, Functions device, Drive Train, etc.) based upon the program. I see as though, "If I see signal 4, then activate this part of the program..." etc. etc.

Excellent, thanks for the links. We ought to be able to put these to great use.
