custom wheels

hey chief delphi users, my team is thinking of making custom wheels to use on the 2008 robot but we don't know the thickness of the tread that is used for traction, can someone help us, and give us some info?

Re: custom wheels

You can cut the tread to any width you want. Last year ours was about 0.8 inches

Re: custom wheels

Most teams use either the roughtop or wedgetop belting available from McMaster Carr (Page 1189 of their catalog). You can get up to 24" width, so as RobJ said, design your wheels how you want and cut the tread the desired width.

Re: custom wheels

Look at "incline conveyor belting" on mcmaster. The roughtop and wedgetop are the most popular. Wedgetop is only available in gum rubber (although, a team at LA had it in black SBR from a canadian distributer) and the roughtop is available in many more, but nitrile, SBR and gum rubber seem to be the most common.

The different materials determine the thickness, so just look on mcmaster for whatever you want (most are .25-.31 iirc).

Re: custom wheels

Ours is 0.75, the year before that 0.625. We use blue nitrile conveyor belting from McMaster Carr.
