Fellow FIRSTers,

I just bought a car and I want you to know that I
considered only cars made by companies which sponsored
FIRST teams.

Cool, Frank! I hope you enjoy it (even if its not one of ours!) I use your criteria when I buy cell phones. I have enjoyed my Motorola Startac for the last few years, and will buy another Motorola when the time comes. Its easy when the product is a high quality one like your phones are.

Just the other day, someone said something to me about my phone being made in Japan. While I'm sure the components come from all over the world, I know it is assembled in the US and it is engineered in the US. I told him 'the engineers live in Chicago!'

I am only one engineer with very little impact on what gets sourced to whom, but...

If I have any influence at all, I keep in mind the suppliers who have FIRST teams (and the quality of the robots produced).

For example, it will take a LOT of folks like me to allow 3D Services to recoop their FIRST costs, but for what it is worth, I think quite a lot of that company and those guys. If I get a chance, I will throw some business their way.

FIRST -- better than the old boy network ;-)

Joe J.

I'm the same way, maybe it's just human nature to buy what you're familiar with, but I find myself buying all kinds of products that are made by FIRST sponsors: cars, cell phone, pager, vcr...self-promotion has always been a good corporate reason for sponsoring a FIRST team and it certainly works for me.:
