Can you hurdle the Trackball's backward?

I was just looking at rule <G11> Each TRACKBALL that HURDLES its own FINISH LINE will earn 8 points (2 points for CROSSING the FINISH LINE – re Rule <G10> - and a 6 point bonus, yielding 8 points total). Does this mean that you could theoretically hurdle a trackball backward, while moving forward?

Re: Can you hurdle the Trackball's backward?

We were discussing the same idea.
what i came up with is that is should be possible to hurdle the ball backwards. As long as your robot isn't going backwards it should be fine.

Re: Can you hurdle the Trackball's backward?

HURDLE: When a TRACKBALL CROSSES a FINISH LINE while passing above the OVERPASS and then contacts either the floor or another ROBOT before re-contacting the originating ROBOT.

HURDLING: The act of completing a HURDLE. To be considered in the process of HURDLING, the ROBOT must:
• be in its own HOME STRETCH, and
• be in POSSESSION of a TRACKBALL, and
• be moving toward the OVERPASS and/or elevating the TRACKBALL so that the top of the TRACKBALL is higher than the LANE DIVIDER.

You must be in your own home stretch to hurdle. (The home stretch being the quarter of the field immediately before the finish line)

Re: Can you hurdle the Trackball's backward?

Now, I had a similar idea, which was 'capping' backwards after a hurdle, without breaking G22 of course.

Re: Can you hurdle the Trackball's backward?

So, is it possible to have 2 robots stand in different sides of the home Hurdling, and while one moves the ball above the hurdling the one standing on the other side passes the ball back ot that robot, which moves it above the hurdling once again, and so on?

Seems to me you could pass the ball back across the finish line, for a robot in your home stretch to continuously hurdle the ball.

This will need to be put to the Q&A, but here's what we discussed in another thread.
Quote:
<G13> A TRACKBALL that has CROSSED its own FINISH LINE must CROSS the opponent’s FINISH LINE before it can score by CROSSING its own FINISH LINE again.
HURDLING includes CROSSING, so I would like to think that you can't score multiple times, but it's not unreasonable to interpret that you would get eight points for the first hurdle, and six for each one after that (points for the HURDLE, but not the CROSSING). We'll find out in an early update, I'm sure.

Exactly what I was thinking, but you would have to make sure that none of the robots involved are blocking access to the track.

Re: Can you hurdle the Trackball's backward?

Well, hypothetically you could do it if you want to, but it doesn't score you any points. <G13> says that you have to send the ball across the opponent's finish line before it can cross your finish line again. Sry , we thought about the same thing. I'm also guessing that counts for throwing or rolling.

Re: Can you hurdle the Trackball's backward?

This is correct, you can not score unless you move the trackball around the course and across the other alliance finish line.

Similarly, you can not cross your own finish line and then hurdle or you would indeed score an additional 2 points in the process. You have already scored the 2 points, so then you have to go around before you could hurdle.

Re: Can you hurdle the Trackball's backward?

Actually you can have one robot in your alliance waiting in the other teams homestretch, cross that finish line and then take it to hurdle over the finish line on your side. The robot who hurdled in the first palce can then go to where the second robot was originally. I haven't been able to find a reason that wouldn't be allowed, they did it in the demos, and it fits with the whole FIRST and teamwork thing.

Re: Can you hurdle the Trackball's backward?

i had this problem for a while and took a while to figure it out too, i thought i could pass under the rack and then shoot the ball over but i found out otherwise. you have to shoot the ball befor you cross the goal line.

Re: Can you hurdle the Trackball's backward?

The closest thing to what you want is what was done in the demo (as recently mentioned) which involves passing the ball over the lane divide and thus cossing the opponents finish line in the process. this makes for a smaller radiused circle still moving counter clockwise.
