Re: Are you allowed to herd another Teams Ball

According to G29...

Quote:
POSSESSING Opponent’s TRACKBALLS - ROBOTS may not be in the POSSESSION of a TRACKBALL belonging to an opposing ALLIANCE. A PENALTY will be assigned for each violation. HERDING of an opponent’s TRACKBALL and removing an opponent’s TRACKBALL from the OVERPASS is permitted.
So you can herd it, just can't "Posses" it. I think the intent of the rule is "No." But bumping an opponents ball about is OK.

Re: Are you allowed to herd another Teams Ball

That is clearly spelled out in rule G29. The definition of herding is at the beginning of "The Game" section of the manual.

Please read the manual thoroughly before planning your team's strategies.

Eh, the manuals are a lot to look through and there is no guarantee that everyone has access to it on kickoff day ( I had to try 4-5 times to get it downloaded). A week from now there's no excuse not to have gone through the manual several times, but even then, it can be easy to miss some things.

My philosophy is that the manual is something to refer to and to give you a bit of an idea. If you come up with ideas with the mentality that anything is possible, then you will come up with outrageous ideas that are truly amazing. Often times, we find that these outrageous ideas are possible. Besides, if you want to really go 'by the book' you should use the engineering design process. Though Problem Identification is first, you don't have to read the entire manual. Then you brainstorm. You don't check with the manual until you already have all your ideas.

Re: Are you allowed to herd another Teams Ball

G29 clearly says you can herd, in other words, as long as your not supporting the weight of the trackball, or controlling it such that it maintains position relative to you when you back up or spin.

HOWEVER, G10 states that if you cross the opponents FINSISH LINE while in contact with their trackball, then they get two points. (could work against you!)

Good Luck!

Re: Are you allowed to herd another Teams Ball

well you can't take control of oppents balls, but in the rules you can bulldoze balls. and that's all the rule states, so really it just depends when bulldozing becoming?

Sorry, Jason, but this is a really bad suggestion from a mentor.

Please, please, please read the manual to define the rules and the requirements of the game.

And yes, outrageous ideas are possible. For example, when you are learning to drive you will find that you can do a lot of things in your car that are prohibited in a drivers manual. And I can see the look on the police officer's face when you say, "but the manual is something to refer to and to give you a bit of an idea... but I brainstormed and found this was possible, so I did it."

Re: Are you allowed to herd another Teams Ball

The first thing the team I was with did was read Section 7. Those who weren't were setting up a simulation field. Then we started to work a bit.
