What is a Great Lakes Spy Video worth?

What do folks think about this idea I have been kicking around for a few years?

If we could get enough teams interested in signing up to have a no-nonsense scouting video of the Michigan regional, I think that I could find a professional video company to shoot the matches, duplicate the tapes and mail them out.

The idea would be to have a complete video showing match after match after match, perhaps even a completed scoring chart could be included.

This would be a no-nonsense affair. No production value. There would be no editing except that the camera would be shut off between rounds.

The ypsi venue would allow a pretty good bird's eye view shot.

I checked into this a while back. I don't recall, but I think that the camera crew was something like $1000 for two days of shooting. The duplication was something like $10 per tape. I think it would take 2 tapes at Standard VHS format to hold a whole competition. Shipping was about $15.

Roughly speaking, with 20 teams interested in this think it would cost about $85 per team to cover all the costs ($50 for the crew, $20 for the tapes, $15 for shipping).

So...

How much interest is there in this sort of thing at those prices?

Joe J.

P.S. I would love to be able to get similar offers from local teams going to other regionals that we are not going to. Anybody willing to take this on?

Personally, Austin, I'd rather have the gold! The first tournament of the year is the only one that I would seriously consider buying, and then, only if we were not there; I think it would be a better system to just offer a 'trading board' on this site where teams could swap videos for no charge (since all of the tournaments are already being taped by quite a few teams). The video might not be as high a quality, but it would only run about $10 with shipping included. These arrangements would need to be set up ahead of time to make sure that involved teams knew to shoot all matches, not just those of personal interest.

Good Idea Joe! I just remember how worthwhile it was to watch the NASA Ames regional on TV match by match, it would definately be worth the money. Count me in.

Good idea! We wouldn't be as interested in the video from Yipsi, since we (most likely) will be there.

But, I'm with Joe about getting tapes from other Regionals. Count me in to contribute for other Regional footage.

Later,
Andy B.

I know we would be very interested in this endeavor. Let me know when you get everything put together. Also you might want to check with team 222. I know they video everything they go to - they might be interested in undertaking the Philly Regional.
