Last Year's Pneumatics

I feel stupid asking this b/c there is probably some obvious answer somewhere...but...

We're trying to use last year's pneumatics to do some stuff and to learn how to use them (we had neither the time nor the energy to figure them out last year)...so anyway...to cut a long story short...to do what we want to do with them we need to know how to use them soon BUT we can't find any documentation on them anywhere in last year's manual or anything. They are made by SMC with product #'s NVZ110 and NVJ114. I assume they came out of last years kit b/c that's teh box they came out of...but maybe we got them somewhere else or something....

well anyway...anyone who can help us ASAP...please reply or email me or something..b/c i know teams used them last year...the question is just how??

Thanks for any help,
Tom

I have been thinking about pneumatics, too. I don't feel very comfortable with them. All we could figure out last year was that we could get a max of 30 psi. Seemed useless to us. The year before last, we wanted to use suction to hold the balls, but we didn't really trust that either.
I was wondering if FIRST is planning to increase the pneumatics equipment this year, since a workshop is being held soon (locally). If pneumatics are offered again, and I assume they will be, I'd like to see something more substantial.

I think that FIRST has made a key connection within SMC Pneumatics, Inc.

They have been supporters in the past, but I think that SMC is going to really step up the support this year.

I have no inside knowledge, but I know that Dean has been pushing to get the pnuematic components into the game. The last few years have really made huge improvements in the electo-mechanical side. The pnuematics have not kept up. Perhaps this will be the year.

Here's the simplest and best way to learn about pneumatics: call a vendor.

In this case, I suggest calling SMC at 317 899-4440, and ask for a distributor in your area. This vendor MIGHT be interested in taking an hour or two to show you the basics... they would also be the person you would order spare parts from.

Keep in mind that these people are in sales and not education, so you might not get exactly what you ask for, but it would be interesting to try.

You would think that they would at least send you some catalogs or documentation about the basics.

We used some of the pneumatics last year, and I'll check out the parts (NVZ110 and NVJ114) and repost what they do and how to use them once I get back to my cubicle at Delphi - Delco.

Andy Baker
