Question Questions on Mecanum Drive Train

Our Team Is Looking At Mecanum Wheels Any Comments comparing turning (not strafing) Compard to 4 wheel drive tank steering turning. Is it just as fast? Also, how about straight forward/reverse speed. Can Mecanum achieve 10-12 feet/ sec? I realizethat Mecanum are not as efficient.

Re: Questions on Mecanum Drive Train

With the appropriate control of motor speed and direction, a mecanum drivebase will turn on a dime and give you nine cents change. No skips. No hops. No skids. Just smooth turning, as fast as you want. Sometimes faster, if you're not careful.

As for speed, it's all about gear ratios. You'll trade away torque if you want speed, just as with any scheme.
