Last year we didn't have anything machined until week 3.

Now that we can do the work ourselves and don't have to rely on time donated by sponsors, we should be done with our frame, wheels, bearing housings, and cams for tensioning the drive chains by Monday or so.

Impressive as always Cory. We are using a sliding bearing block instead to tension our bike chains. We are using a double sprocket in case **** happens and can switch the chain over for the front and rear wheels. Plus, we can mass produce the same sprockets no matter where they go.
Being next to you folks in the pit last year has truly been inspirational.
Thanks.

At least a few days ahead if not a possible week by tonight,

Chassis is cut out and is almost ready for actual assembly.

Re: How far are teams right now? Behind Schedual?

234 is doing pretty well. Last year, we spent like 2 weeks brainstorming, so it feels like we're flying. We decided on a chassis design, and we're getting closer to coming to a final manipulator idea. We are building our mock field and working to CAD our chassis. Also, our communications team has gotten busy on presentations and such. However, we're pretty much on the schedule we set after kick-off.

Re: How far are teams right now? Behind Schedual?

So far we've decided on a chassis/drive train design, and we're almost done refining lift and arm mechanisms. We hope to start doing some basic building this week.

Today we sort of built our toughboxes, but we had a bit of trouble and need to fix a few issues we had.

Re: How far are teams right now? Behind Schedual?

What is this "schedule" of which you speak, lol.

As far as progress goes compared to last year, I would rate us ahead, given that we didn't have a chassis till the middle of week 4, let alone a drivable one.

However, we've been designing since kick-off and we have basically decided upon drivetrain, but since the base of the robot hasn't been decided on, we can't build it. Our actuator is a different story, we've gone through at least 40 iterations total, and if you don't keep up, you'll miss at least 3, lol.

Hopes though are for design to be completed by the end of the week and building of the chassis to begin. If we accomplish it, it will be the greatest speed in which we've designed in the history of our team.

Programming is a different story, we're working on some new ideas right now that i'll just leave up to your imaginations. But I will say that if we do everything we want to do, I won't say it would be completely autonomous, but it would be like hybrid mode the whole match.

Re: How far are teams right now? Behind Schedual?

Our team is already working on claw, chasis and drive train mock ups (We already decided on our design on Monday). Our Chairman's award entry will be done very soon (remember we don't qualify for the Chairman's anymore but we have to enter one to qualify for the HOF. The Chairman's not our main focus our HOF design is. So we quickly slap together a decent copy and focus on the HOF right after). The animation and Website are a little bit behind.

Re: How far are teams right now? Behind Schedual?

We have prototyped a catapult already. Now we are working on articulated arm and elevator prototypes. Chassis will be started sometime between tomorrow and Saturday (still some debate on what our drive train should be and that will dictate how our chassis is).

In comparison to last year, we had our chassis done by Tuesday of the second week, and if we work with a drive system we are familiar with (4WD or 2 wheels centered with UHMW sliders on the corners) then we could make that date, but if we choose any of the other options being talked about, then it could take more time. As far as attachment last year, we didn't really start prototyping till week two, so I think we are ahead of our game this year.

Our team is pretty behind schedule compared to you guys, we get 30 of us or so in a room and debate the possible options we come up with and we have back tracked several times to revote for various reasons...I hope we have a finalized design by friday so we can start building whereas some of you have already ordered....eesh

Re: How far are teams right now? Behind Schedual?

Well, we were finalized yesterday. But today in a meeting we found some serious flaws after playing around in CAD, which forced a redesign (better now than later). We kind of mashed together two ideas and it was my job to model it. I just finished our robot, 90% complete. I left out a few things because they're minor details and I've been in Inventor for a little over 5 hours now. Basically I got the thing to come together and work properly.

We ordered all the metal and components for our chassis today. Should have the stuff by Monday and have our chassis done by mid next week. Tomorrow we'll be ordering stuff for the manipulator. The way the ball is rolling right now (could be a teaser....) we should be done by around mid 4th week or so (knock on wood). We're right on schedule.

Re: How far are teams right now? Behind Schedual?

A little disappointed with our brain trust this year (I can only say that because I am design team head), we only came up with 2 plausible ideas, and are full-size prototyping one right now. Should have a robot mapped out (hopefully CAD'ed) by this friday.

Re: How far are teams right now? Behind Schedual?

We are a Rookie team and we had presentations by various subgroups on their designs tonight. We are going to attempt to have our final design and strategy decided tomorrow night or Friday afternoon.

We have the two AM Tough Boxes put together with motors mounted and the electrical team has their basic system laid out. Our website is about to go live on Friday as well.
Education team got VEX kits yesterday for our mini-robot contest we will be doing for elementary and middle schools. They are going to build them to tomorrow and begin the progamming and troubleshooting their contest and design on Saturday.

Do not know if we are ahead or behind schedule of where others are, but we are on our schedule as we had planned at this point.
We will build our practice course and begin work on the chassis on Saturday.

We are excited. Thanks to teams 2158 and 418 for their help in the preseason. If it were not for them, we would not be where we are at this time.

Re: How far are teams right now? Behind Schedual?

Our drivetrain is complete now minus the electronics, batteries, sensors, etc. We wait until the whole robot frame is completed before adding those in with the exception of certain sensor attachments. We started working on building our "Z" function today. We think we can finish that by the start of next week. Then we will focus on the apparatus (claw) to grab the ball efficiently.
CA, WF award, and pit crew stuff are way ahead of schedule.
We are behind on controllers and robot stand.

And most importantly, our largest concern, our snack refrigerator is depleted!

Re: How far are teams right now? Behind Schedual?

We're done.

It's all designed, built, programmed, and powder-coated ... and we just got back some stuff from the paint and chrome shop.

Tonight we put it in the crate and shipped it to regionals. We almost didn't make the 7pm drop-off at the shipping company.

If it wasn't for the late report from the NASA wind-tunnel testing we did yesterday, we could've shipped it by lunchtime.

(and if you believe that, I've got a used car I'd like to sell you! )
