Best 80/20 linear bearings
Our team is planning an elevator lift this year. Last year, the major problems with our lift were caused by our custom made linear bearings. So we were wondering, where do you recommend getting premade linear slides for 1"x1" 80/20 style extrusion?
Thanks. |

Re: Best 80/20 linear bearings
I have never used them, but I would get the ones 80/20 sells themselves... I assume they know their product better than any third-party place you'd be able to find selling parts that just happen to fit.

Re: Best 80/20 linear bearings
Depending on your exact design you could rely entirely on the 80/20 as the slider itself. Team 612 did this last year and it worked perfectly, never jammed, never failed and it was smooth all the way up and down.
All you have to do is take the corner of one piece of extrusion and slip it down the other piece, and then you have a slider. But if you have some sort of carriage at the end that is not made of 80/20 you probably do need linear bearings, and I may be mistaken but 80/20 suppliers often carry them. Re: Best 80/20 linear bearings
We have used the 80/20 Single UniBearings for several years now with great success. The specific part number to mate with the 1010 extrusion is 6760. However, we have made two significant changes to them:
1) We always loctite the #8-32 flat head screws, as they tend to come loose over time. (as they are practically impossible to service once built) 2) We always replace those same flat head screws with longer screws. The supplied 1/4" long (IIRC) flat head only catches 2 or 3 threads. We go to a longer 5/16" screw to ensure the proper engagement. Please let me know if you have any further questions. Bengineer |
