Competition port power

I'm looking to make my own disable switch with some logic chips and LEDs. Is there any way to draw +5 from the competition port? I know it's possible to power the OI with that port, but when it is powered by AC or tether, can it provide power?

Re: Competition port power

If all else fails, why not stuff some batteries in it? You aren't going to be using it during comp anyways.

Re: Competition port power

Yes, I've seen all of those websites, and none of them have any info about sourcing power, besides "don't do it."

Just for anyone else interested, today I took a voltmeter to the port, and found that pin 1 is at 12 volts. If you want 5, you can use a regulator.

Keep in mind what the PDF for the disable connection says right in the center with big words. Connection to any other ping will void warranty.

If you want to power LEDs showing what the settings are at just use 2 AA batteries and a double pole double throw switch.

Re: Competition port power

You'll probably find (as I did) that pin 1 is connected directly to the coaxial power pin, with no current limiting or fuse of any kind. The risk should be obvious.
