ChiefDelphi.com corrupt? -- ZOUNDS!?!?

NO, not THAT kind of corruption, the kind where 0's become 1's and vice versa ;-)

I have been informed that people trying to download the (most excellent) spread sheet I developed for comparing various FIRST motors have not been able to read the file.

Further investigation has shown that for reasons that are not clear to me the file is gaining a few Kbytes in size during the download process.

So, I have zipped the file and re-loaded it on our site so that teams may download the zipped file and then recover the Excel file without the additional corrupt bytes that are causing the problems. Note that the file is essentially the same size zipped as unzipped (2% compression) because Excel files not terribly good candidates for compression. But the goal in this case is not compression but protection.

Let me know if there are any more problems accessing this (or any other) file.

Your humble servant,

Joe J.

I have tried to download the 'Comprehensive Intro to FIRST' Powerpoint presentation but it wasn't working when I downloaded it. Can you fix it?

David,

What would not work? Did it download and then was not useable? Did it not download? Did your browser try to open it?

Please explain more.

Joe J.

I downloaded it then it was not usable.
The problem may be with my computer.
It has a few problems.

I think this presentation was made using an Office 97 version of PowerPoint.

Could that be the problem?

If you would like, I could e-mail you a copy.

I would really like to get this resolved for others if there is a problem though, so don't everyone give up on this.

If you have downloaded it and had no problems or had the same or different problems, please let us know.

Before we set up our White Papers section, we discussed getting a copy of Adobe Acrobat (the whole version not just the reader version available free) and converting everything on it to Acrobat format.

Would this be a valuable feature?

Opinions on Acrobat format and reports of problems/no problems would be appreciated.

Joe J.

the conversion software costs some money.

www.adobe.com would probably have the answers

That might be the problem. I just have version 4.0. I can get a better version from a friend of mine.
