Cable Versus Chain

Our team is considering a lifting manipulator, and I was wondering if anybody had a preference of driving with either cable or chain.

Question 1: Cable or chain? Why?

Question 2: Drive one cable/chain from the middle or two cables/chains from the sides?

For a lift (like a forklift), I think most teams use cable. I believe that 330 often used one in the middle for a single-stage and then a two from the sides for additional stages. (Note: You should probably also plan to pull the lift down. A single cable attached to the same winch as the one to pull up should suffice.)
