3ds max "rigging"

how would I set up a lego gear in 3ds max 10 to run along a flat gear track lego piece without manually animating it? I understand linking, but I wasn't sure how to tell max that rotation of gears, meant movement...or movement meant the gears would rotate.

thanks guys.
