Broken IR board?

Our IR board was working OK and then stopped for no apparent reason...

Here is what we are experiencing with it:

I can enter learn mode and learn 4 buttons per the instructions and once this is done, whether I cycle power on the board or not, these buttons do not toggle the output pins nor do they light the led output leds (are they supposed to do that?)

I have tried 3 different remotes now and also pulled a schematic off the web for the Tiny IR board (which this is a take off of..) and verifed with my scope that pin 6 of the pic is getting the stream of IR data from the IR receiver remote but no outputs on pins 18, 17, 1, or 2 of the pic.

Hard to imagine that the code in the pic is not good as it still goes through the motions of the learn mode... There was something in the IR paper that said if the output doesn't work then the remote may not be set up for 38Khz but isn't that pretty much a standard for a universal remote and would this IR board even learn these codes if it could not use them?

Has anyone else had problems with this board and even more importantly, where do we get tech support or replacements for these?

Any recommendation of a better board that we can use instead of this one? I am concerned that if others have problems and the source is limited that this is a pretty poor part to use....

any suggestions?

thanks in advance

Re: Broken IR board?

I have been having the same problem with our board. Have you had any luck or gotten any PM's about the issue?

Re: Broken IR board?

First of all, you're right that all the TV remotes use the 38.5 KHz modulation. The IR board uses that special IR receiver that only recognizes pulses sent over that modulation.
Also, if the learn mode seems normal, i.e., each of the LEDs lights indicating that a particular remote key press associates with a particular LED, I also agree that the PIC program is probably intact.
The only thing that comes to mind is that the TV remotes that you are using may not be continuous. Some send out a single "frame" of data. Others are continuous meaning as long as you hold down the button, it continually sends out the code. You might not be able to see the LED light if it is a single frame remote.
Finally, I agree that it would have been nice to have a schematic and some troubleshooting capability for the IR board.
Cheers, Larry
