Yes, polycarbonate is strong and light, but it can be flimsy in certain applications.

It makes an amazing electronics board, but using it in a drive train will take a little bit of planning. The easiest way to strengthen it is to bend the edges of your piece... It will still be bendable along the diagonals (if it's a square), but it will take a lot of flexability out of the center of the piece, which is what you need in a drive train.

edit: After taking a second look, I see no one mentioned using polycarbonate in a drive train... oops... but I'll leave the information here anyway. Polycarbonate will be great for an electronics board.
