More than one, but I know who you are referring to. That was a common tactic in 2003

Re: Silly and ridiculous robot designs.

Our robot will use the VERY SAME tranporting (atomizer maybe....?) devise used in the Starship ENTERPRISE to make laps. Only problem we've had so far is getting the robot to stop turning into plasma...

Re: Silly and ridiculous robot designs.

Someone had a design of making a "poking stick" that consisted of 90 degree angles and just went around and "poked" at the ball. It actually wasn't even looked at.

Re: Silly and ridiculous robot designs.

our team has the running joke of "Toaster Bot" from last year (and this year). If the match was a water challenge, we would cannibalize ourselves to "toast" the opponents. scrapped due to the lack of gracious professionalism.

also, "Wesley Bot" (me in a cardboard box). What a riot

Re: Silly and ridiculous robot designs.

A mentor and I were discussing the possibility of a robot that could create a worm hole that would transport the ball back in time and through space so we could score at the beginning of the match. It would also allow us to score many more times than the other teams.

Re: Silly and ridiculous robot designs.

for the tetras...
positively charge the tetras, and negatively charge the arm

for aim high

positively charge the balls, negatively charge the robot...

for rack n roll...

positively charge the tubes, negative charge the robot...

for overdrive...

positively charge the track ball, negatively charge the ground.

i dont get it, is it such a bad idea?

Re: Silly and ridiculous robot designs.

In 2007 a few people came up with the idea of making a MonkeyBot able to climb the rack to put the tubes on the top spider. We decided it wouldn't be worth the penalties.

Re: Silly and ridiculous robot designs.

Hmm... This year a gigantic spear that could impale the ball and carry it around with it touching the ground. Alternatively, a hot air balloon with a claw on the bottom, a Trebuchet, a ballista and a freshman in a box.

Then a pneumatic would lift the platform up to 45 degrees and that would put tension in the bungee. Then we release a catch and the bungee makes the ball go flying.

At some point in his presentation, I say "So it's basically a giant crossbow, right?"

Funny stuff.
that was MY design, basically a huge crossbow that tensioned bungees with a pneumatic (or 2) that flung the balls across the field. but that was before i actually picked one of the suckers up .....

Re: Silly and ridiculous robot designs.

Ha ha, I guess our's isn't the silyest, but one of our members wanted to make a pickle launcher to knock the trackball down, alas it was against the rules (projectiles and leaving things on the field)
