Please try and not post graphic pictures of injuries - I for one get grossed out.

I'm sorry that folks are getting hurt while participating in the robot build - try to be careful and follow good safe practices. We all realize that accidents can still occur. So if you do get hurt, take the proper precautions in cleaning and sanitizing in order to avoid infections.

I would advise you to pay attention to meaubry. He isn't the only one who gets grossed out. I have seen a picture of what happens when long hair gets into a lathe. Some of the people on 294 have probably also seen it. After the cleanup (when the picture was taken), it still scared me. No, I would NOT post it, even if I could get a copy of it. It's a little too graphic.

You obviously are missing the point. We are telling stories as a WARNING, not for fun. We don't have to prove them with pictures, partly because chances are nobody has a camera or the "presence" of mind to use one. Most of us have teammates on here who can verify stories if needed.

It may be frustrating that this thread is not turning out the way you had planned for it to. You can't force it to be what you want. Anytime someone creates a thread, it then becomes open to discussion. You opened this thread in the General forum, opening it to discussion and participation. It was then moved to Chit Chat where it is still open to discussion and participation.

It is my understanding that you want photos of injuries that occur in FIRST. By looking at the way this thread is playing out, you aren't going to see that many photos.
a. there may not be that many to post - which would be a good thing, showing that shop safety is being following
b. posters are not interested in showing their injuries for any numbers of reasons
c. this is a very busy time of year and the focus is on build and preventing injuries during build
d. maybe the general attitude in this thread is a turn-off. That's a possibility that you might consider.

Typing in all caps tells all of us that we are being yelled at. Telling the members of CD that their injuries will only be judged as true with the proof of the photo is insulting. When an injury occurs, there is pain involved and no one needs to prove that they have suffered. Common courtesy and respect go a long way in ChiefDelphi.

I agree, This thread, regardless of the threadmaker's intention, should be to share warnings and advice not just pictures. and seriously, when you get serisouly injured why the heck would you stop to take a picture of it?

This thread is part of this forum.

JaneYoung put it very well a few posts ago, that just because you created this thread, dosen't mean it will not take on a life of its own. There are many legitimate reasons for those who have been injured to be unable or unwilling to post pictures of their scars:

-pictures unavalible
-pictures violate forum rules
-pictures bring back bad memories
-pictures too numerous
-shows off evidence that they have behaved in ways that would probably be frowned upon in consideration for the safety award.

There are also an equally legitimate number of reasons for others not to want to view these pictures. (no offense to those who have posted pictures already) I know people who would feel sick at what has been posted so far, let alone what is avalible on the rest of the internet if you truly want to go out of your way to see people getting hurt. Chiefdelphi is not the place to get grossed out. It is a place for constructive discussion about experiences, past, present, and future, within the FIRST community. Learning lessons from experiences such as those highlighted in this thread falls into this, laughing at blood and gore does not. It's that simple.


(Not to discourage non-gory pictures, if you have them, are willing to post, are confident that they will not gross anyone out, and feel they will help teach other's why NOT to do whatever caused them, then go ahead.)


People make mistakes. I know I did when I first joined this forum. However, pushing something like this and refusing to learn from what others say will only get you in trouble. If you look at, for example, the "game hint #4 thread," you will notice that things only started getting ugly after the poster refuses to fess up, and begins just being rude.

People will say "they're just dots." This is true, people shouldn't judge others by them. However, this dosen't mean you shouldn't judge yourself by them. Remember, your posts reflect not only yourself and your team, but also others, who you have never met. For example (I'm assuming that) Team 47 (chief delphi) uses these forums as a prominent part of their website award submission. Would they have won awards for their site for as many years as they have, or at all, if this forum was full of inappropriate material, and not the great resource that it is and that that we all want it to be?

Although it didn't hurt very much, a bunch of my friends were freaked out even though I gave them a sign that I was fine.

Anyway, this is what my hand looks like now.
