Re: [FTC]: Game deciding strategies

I accidentally clicked the wrong poll vote, but one of the more innovative and successful strategies I saw was a team latching onto a single goal and then driving in the other direction scooping up rings and dropping them on as they went.

Re: [FTC]: Game deciding strategies

At Chicago, generally if you could get atleast 2 goals in your zone, you won the game. If you could do it in Auton you could pretty much guarantee the match. Another thing that was an amazing help with posessing goals was a grabbing mechanism which could pull the goals off of the wall or out of the corner. Our gripper originally was designed to grab the goal around the base, but we found it was much easier to control the goals if we bent the ends of our gripper so it had a hook on each end. These hooks could grab one goal fron pretty much anywhere, or even grab two goals and drag them with the robot.

Re: [FTC]: Game deciding strategies

Though i havn't seen much of it, when a robot scored at least three rings on the high post, they almost always won the game.

Re: [FTC]: Game deciding strategies

Out of all of the videos, etc. That i have seen, scoring was a capability only enjoyed by a few robots. Most of the robots were fighting over the goals and trying to get the points for afterwards.

My thought is that if you can get at least 5 rings up on the 24 inch poles and then at least have one goal in your quadrant then you should have the win.

Re: [FTC]: Game deciding strategies

We found that the goals played a huge part in deciding the matches. Our final match, which would have won us the competition, was lost by one goal that moved out of our quadrant when the crossbar pulled out of its paired goal. Those 14 points make a huge difference.

Re: [FTC]: Game deciding strategies

Yeah. Although the game this year is really involved, i wish that the game relied more on one's ability to score the actual game pieces rather than bickering over goals the entire match. But, HEY. I'm not complaining. It's a fun game...just hope to see some of you there...

btw...who's coming to the GA regional here...

That's always expected, sort of weeding out scorers from non scorers. Hope everyone gets a lot of practice driving and playing around. Anyone coming to the NJ comp. at TCNJ?

I'll be up there! Can't wait!!

As for what I've seen... at the Diamond State Tech Challenge, I saw a lot of battles over the paired goal. Once the single goals were in, there wasn't as much of a battle for possession
