Banebot Planetary Mounting

This year we are planing on using the Banebot planetary gearboxes for our drive system, and i am curious about the best mounting strategy.

Re: Banebot Planetary Mounting

That depends!

If you give us a lot more information, such as what you are using for the frame, what drive setup you will have (2wd, 4wd, 6wd, etc), what type wheels you're using, and stuff like that, we could probably give some recommendations.

Re: Banebot Planetary Mounting

we will be going front wheel drive with ball casters on the back. we are going to use our modified lawn mower wheels for the drive wheels i attached a screen shot of a model of the frame (as it is now) I did in Google sketchup it is all welded, the top level is 1 inch angle the bottom is 2 inch angle the corners are 5 inches vertical.

Re: Banebot Planetary Mounting

Do you already have your frame made? It looks like it could be a little flimsy and I would recommend adding a couple of crossbars in the middle. Then simply mount your gearboxes onto the crossbars and drill a hole out of the side of them (assuming you would use angle for the crossbars) for the shaft to come out of. I would NOT direct drive the wheel on the gearbox. Run chain instead.

Re: Banebot Planetary Mounting

The frame, as it is now, is quite stable, but there will defiantly be cross bars bolted in once the individual systems are finished. For instance I was thinking i would mount a aluminum plate to parallel cross bars then mount the gear box to it, but this would leave the rear unsupported. I haven't received the boxes yet i am only going off of last year's bane bots and pictures online.

Do you say not to direct drive because of the nature of the planetary gearbox? Because we have done very well in the past with it direct drive to a normal style gearbox.
