Messed up water

Hi,
I know I've kind of been overusing help here the past few days but were a new team and im kinda supposed to be in charge. So, on that note, we have made a water material, which looks great. The problem is, only half of it does.

So, if anyone knows what my problem could be, help would be great. It is one plane, one material, and one light. Im using mental ray.

Re: Messed up water

What sort of lighting are you using?
If you aren't already, I'd suggest trying the Daylight system with mental ray lights. That may eliminate some of the problems by producing a more even light (it simulates how the sky scatters the light, while still providing a direct light). Also, if you can, use final gather and global illumination (not sure about this in exterior day-lit scenarios, but it helps a lot in interior). That should increase the quality of the lighting a great deal.

Re: Messed up water

Another thing that might help is to move your camera up so it's looking down at a steeper angle. So you you dont see the horizon, or in this case a squared-off pond. Unless you want to show a squared-off pond.

Re: Messed up water

I will change the camera angle. Right now, I'm using just a spotlight with a very wide beam. I added some directional lights at the back to see if that would help but it didnt. I'm at my home comp right now, so I'm going to have to wait till tomorrow to try the daylight thing. Just one question. When I use MR with daylight, the daylight doesnt show up. Is it just a 3dsm8 thing?

Re: Messed up water

It should be at a normal level of light (default light) with the mr lights (no need to mess with exposure control a lot). Could be that you have something configured with that for the normal exterior lights.
