Optical Sensors and/Or Magnets

I was wondering if I was missing something.....but someone had mentioned to me that there were optical sensors in the kit....but I don't see them.

Was this perhaps in last-year's kit, and NOT this years?

I see that there are a number of LEDs in the kit.....are there any sort of light detectors that might be used in conjunction with the LEDs to make a homemade Optical sensor?

How about magnets for the reed switches.....more specifically, sheets of magnet material...or how about this....is it legal to magnitize steel for use on the robot?

Oh well....just a few silly questions....

Yes, the optical sensors were in the kit last year and yes, they're tragically no longer with us.

My team did receive magnets for use with the reed switches. They were in a very small brown envelope. Take another look. Moreover, you're allowed to use an unregulated amount of magnet material on the robot this year. Now about magnetizing the metal...I'm not so sure. It seems as if that shouldn't be illegal, but we'll see what other people say. However, I think it'd probably end up being in your best interest to use a few little magnets instead. Makes everything easier in my opinion.

Danial

If you check the additional hardware list I belive that
Magnets are allowed and you can have any amount. I don't have the list in front of me, but from what I remember I belive that is true.
