Re: The Nothing Thread

I just had the best time. We are setting up the '07 robot for a display/demo at NI Week here in Austin and it was so much fun. Just in the brief time I was there dropping off stuff, I had a couple of people from other booths come over and introduce themselves and ask what team we are with. They are alumni from different teams, different states. It was awesome. Good stuff, that. I'll be in and out all week and will take photos of a few things like the cool banner that was made with our robot on it.

It's been interesting also because I'm still hauling around a lot of stuff from the San Antonio demo/scrimmage on Jul. 19 that Andrew Schuetze organized for us. I was on my way to IRI so my son pulled the trailer to that event. If I recall, it was raining or threatening to rain that day. We were helping FRC 2158, AusTIN Cans, with their robot and gear as well. So - for some reason the trailer tire jack is in my car but not the trailer and we aren't sure where some other things are - like a red ringer. They'll show up and I'm interested to discover where. In the meantime, I still had tools and the controller and everything loaded ready for the NI event. That was pretty cool. There's nothing better than a car loaded up for a FIRST demo/event/competition. It just about makes the day perfect.

2 AM POST!!!

OK, so....

I haven't been on CD in quite a while. I got out for like a week (several months ago), and when I came back, I was swamped with all the new posts all over the place, and just kind of gave up.

So now I'm BACK!!!

Anyway, I find myself staying up much past 2 o'clock. I think it would be fun to post on this thread if you are up at 2 oclock (LOCAL TIME PLEASE... no more california cheaters (like on woot!) )

The only problem that I forsee is being pretty nutty at 2 oclock. Not even sure if this is a good idea.

Jacob

Spoiler for Day One:
Day one was survival day, meaning we had to catch our own food. We woke up early in the morning and set off through West Virginia to Maryland. On the way we stopped for about an hour at a chicken farm to pick up some chickens for dinner (these are live chickens by the way). We got four chickens and put them in a dog cage one of the leaders had brought. Later we arrived at our campsite and set up camp. To get some food for dinner, we went fishing at a lake, and later a river. This was mostly uneffective and out of the ten of us, we caught about five small fish, and most of us were sleeping most of the time. When we got back to the campsite it was starting to rain so we had to hang some tarps from trees over our fire pit and cooking station. We had a couple people gutting the fish while the rest of us prepared the chicken (and somewhere there are pictures of this). We had to kill the chickens by having one person hold the chicken's body while the other would grab the head, pull it, and then chop it off. We then hung the body by the legs until all the blood came out. We chopped off the legs and put the chicken in some boiling water so the feathers would come off easier. We plucked out all the feathers, gutted them, and stuck them on a pole to make some delicious rotisary chicken.
Update: thanks to one of the other scouts, there is now a video of this on youtube here.

(no that is not me)

Re: The Nothing Thread

So...... I'm sitting in my Microelectronics class... Listening to my professor babble on about how the Width and Length of Q1 and Q2 on the silicon of a MOSFET effects the output current compared to the reference.....

I'm bored. Anyone else out there sitting in class bored?

Just thought I'd ask.

I'm guessing he's in university and using a laptop...name any spot on any university campus these days that doesn't have wireless connections everywhere. I can guarantee you probably can't. Unless it's a really crappy university.

Nah, he's a high schooler. He may be on a university campus.

And in some college classes, I couldn't access the internet in class if the prof didn't want me to. There are programs that can shut down parts of your computer during class times if needed. The school I'm at uses one. (Most of the profs I've had so far only use it for taking roll, though. If they even take roll.) And it's a pretty good university.

Jacob is way more than a highschooler! As I recall - and Jacob you can chime in here any time - he is taking college courses while finishing up HS. Lots of college courses. And running his own company / charitable organization on the side, and building bots!!! Hopefully one of these days he will publish his secret of living without sleeping.

Yep. Its been one of the best "Hey I'm bored," or "I have this random thought" threads around. And if you go back and read it it does have some Seinfeld-ish moments. Some really deep thoughts and some total silliness!

Re: The Nothing Thread

Wow, I just found this thread, but no ones posted for 14 days, so I thought I would revive it.

So, I got a new phone today, and I hate it!! I got a Razor, and it's not all it's cracked up to be. I can't put any of my 200 pictures on it without having to pay extra. Not all of my contacts made it into my new phone, and none of my ringtones, videos, or other random personal phone stuff will transfer over. And I can't figure out for the life of me how to even work the darn thing. Its terrible!!! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr............Oh well. I guess I'll just be grateful that it was bought for me.Its official, though. I think I'm hooked on CD(well, that might not be a very good thing.) I guess that had to happen eventually, though.
