Hi all,

I know that a lot of you folks had scrimmages today (UTC has one I know for sure and I have heard rumors of the Ford teams getting together in Dearborn).

Do tell all.

As for Chief Delphi, we had some really good runs today, though I have to admit nothing like I hear from Mr. Betts & the UTC-Int'l Fuel Cell team.

It is mid-Winter break at Pontiac Central next week so we are basically going to be driving round the clock until ship time.

Mike Martus promises me some jpeg files of CD5 to upload any minute now. Assuming nothing comes up (e.g. down servers) expect something later tonight or tomorrow.

I still don't know how this game is going to be played, but I hope that it makes for some interesting matches & tourneys.

Joe J.

P.S. I have heard of at least one perennial powerhouse that is basically using the 'Defend the Puck' strategy that seemed to go over big in 1999. Is this a case of the generals trying to fight the last war or are they on to something? I can tell you that is NOT the strategy chosen by the Chief Delphi team, thought I will say that should it come to that, CD5 will likely give as good as it gets ;-)

Rumors... ...spread 'em if you got 'em!

The scrimmage was scheduled to go until late tonight... about 9pm I believe. I'm sitting here at college and I'm just as curious as you to see how things went.

I know the design concept for the 2000 Bobcat, and I have to say... I love it! It’s very simple and multi-functional. I don't know if I'm at liberty to let it out... but hopefully somebody on the team back in Connecticut will post a pic sometime in the near future.

I'm looking forward to see what you guys have. You always bring something big to the field.

Actually... how about back in '98? Remember the semi-finals at the NE regional? You guys beat us in the 3rd round on a tiebreaker. Those were some of the best matches I think I've ever watched. Good luck to you guys...

-Jake

Yep, the Ford teams did invite several other teams to scrimmage today, Saturday, but they aren't quite ready yet.

Ford Team #349, however, IS ready.

While I can't speak for the rest of the teams, I can give out a little info based on the finishing touches that I just put on the control program...here's just a few of the things that will make the Mystery Machine rather interesting this year...
- 2 joysticks, 8 buttons, and 1 multi-position switch connected to the OI
- 8 speed controllers & 5 relays
- 2 speed drive train selectable on-the-fly
- easily adjustable drive train for high speed/high torque between rounds without disassembly
- mechanisms capable of performing almost all possible game actions
- All aluminum construction
...all packed up in a nice and neat 30''x36''x29'' package.

It'll be interesting to see what everybody else comes up with...see you all at the competitions!

Hey Joe-

Maybe next year we should have a little Pontiac scrimmage? I think, personally, we should have had one, not only for the benefit of each other, but because our teams should be the best of friends. Well maybe we can do something a little earlier next year.

WHO WANTS TO START A COUNTDOWN TO EMU??

Hey Erin,

Do you have any idea on the amount of time and energy it takes to do what UTC has done. My hat goes off to them for all the work.

Most teams need to spend time on the robot. Planning an organized event takes time.

Ask Mike McIntyre he would organize it.

I'll have to talk to him about that. If anyone could organize one, he could... he has all the right friends in all the right places.

the pics are great of CD5... and i know that our central kids think that your 'bot is really great. you guys are giving me that good old feeling of intimidation!!

and, THANKS nate for the link at your page. Those Meddling Kids are pretty helpful

Countdown? Did somebody say countdown? You got it! In addition to the Chief Delphi Event countdown (just use the link up above), there is now a to-the-second Java countdown to the pits opening on Thursday at the EMU Competition at the Team 66 - GM Powertrain & Willow Run HS web site, at the link below.

As of when I clicked submit for this message, there was:
17 days, 12 hours, 55 minutes, and 30 seconds left..see you there!
