Keyboard Question

I know someone who has a dog that pulled the keys off the keyboard. Can anyone post instructions for putting them back on? If it makes any difference, the laptop is a HP laptop with B hinges.

Re: Keyboard Question

I can't help with the problem, but I would love to hear the back-story to this post.

And you out there in Indiana must have a double measure of self-control because...

1. I'd be laughing to hard to make this post and

2. It would have read, "I know someone who had a dog..."

Re: Keyboard Question

If it was a normal keyboard I could walk you through it, but laptops.. I got nothing. Ask anyone on my team, my laptop is still missing its W key.

I really want to hear the story behind this... How did they come off exactly? Might help with figuring out how to get them back on.

Re: Keyboard Question

I do this all the time. just put the little tabs back where they go and pop them in. It sometimes takes a while but you get lucky eventually. If it is a different model than what I am used to, I don't know.

sorry, vivek

I accidentally had the F7 key pop off on mine. I just popped it back on. Needed a bit of pressure, but it worked.

Re: Keyboard Question

It seems to have some sort of tab where the keys used to be. Also, the the tab on 1 of them seem to be slightly broke. I am almost considering super glueing the key back onto little button that they push. Just a little worried that I might put it on wrong and completely mess it up. Therefore, I am not putting it back on that way. Also, in the dog's defense... I think it is still a puppy.

Re: Keyboard Question

I think a laptop keyboard is different than a normal one (caption obvious) , because I assume you can't just pop the keys back in...

Probably, the keys are braced on the small springs *looking at my laptop*

Re: Keyboard Question

Yeah, these keys will definitely not pop back on. There was something there to hold them on. Below is a picture of something similar. It is of a keyboard I found on the net.

The only problem is that the brackets are too small to manipulate with fingers. I am totally stumped.

Re: Keyboard Question

i broke the v key on my laptop by dropping a book on it a while back...

you can sorta get it in by some careful snapping into place, but it would have only come off if the white pieces (like in the picture above) had broken. i can't see the laptop obviously, i don't know if you can fix it without taking it in to a computer store, but all you really have to do is snap both of the hinge-white pieces (again, picture above) into the sockets on the key.

Re: Keyboard Question

When the B key came off of my mom's laptop we emailed Dell and they sent us a new keyboard. It took about 15 minutes to install and we've had no problems with it.

Re: Keyboard Question

It looks like at least one of them is broken. If needed, any idea how to fix a broken white piece? I am not sure if what I am asking is even possible, but I kind of need to know. Please keep in mind that this is an extremely zoomed in picture. The piece itself looks about 3/8" square at most. That is one of the things causing the problem.
