We used bolts with lock nuts so they won't come off during competition.

Do you have problems fitting into the box for inspection?

I would use bolts, assuming your pit will have a wrench.

Uhm, didn't the post state that they're using bolts? With lock nuts. Or maybe I'm missing something here...
