I used frontpage to finalize our webpage. sorry guys.

but to actually make everything work, i barely used frontpage, it's too beginerish. i used macromedia fireworks, dreamweaver, and flash.

frontpage works well with adding small little things.

plus you got the pride factor when you finish cuz you 'did it all on your own'.

i am a BIG PageMill fan, however, I can't my hands on the software to do the team page with. I used to have it, but no longer. I can't code HTML that well, and some of what I can only does it's magic on Macintosh. Anyone who wants to help design Team One's page with me, feel free to help.

Well, since I (indirectly) started this thread, I feel almost obligated to put my thoughts in here and there...I've numbered the points above so I can reference them quicker down here...

Re #1: More fun? I teach an intro-level computer lab here at EMU, and I know quite a few people in there would have begged me to use a WYSIWYG editor if we had one installed in the lab. (little did they know, Word can function as one.) Also, many of the newer editors(Frontpage included), allow you to edit the raw HTML code yourself, to add any additional features that the programs can't create for you. However, many of the features that have become so popular on various sites, such as Java, ActiveX, on mouseover image changes, among others, all can be easily done in Frontpage. And, the 2000 version is much nicer to your custom HTML code - it doesn't mangle it nearly as much as older versions did.

Re #2: I've heard this comment before, and of course, have my own opinion on it. For example, if you have a choice between writing a Windows scoring program for this year's competition(my current project for the WMRC), are you going to use the tools at hand(VB or VC++), or actually take the time to write it in assembler, just to say that you 'did it all on your own?'

Netscape works OK for those 5 minute jobs. I do most of my pages in EditPad... you should try it... a really souped up Notepad. I think they have it over at http://www.softseek.com

I agree... notepad is more powerful.

but it's time consuming. if you could do the job in 10 minutes, would you bother doing the same one in 2 hours? i could have made our webpage by hand, but it's time that could be used on something else.

the trick is to make a program that would simplify what you need to do in 2 hours, done in 10 minutes. and use it for that matter.

and when u need notepad access, frontpage and dreamweaver does the work and provides the code editing possibility.

check out our website and tell me that's easy using notepad.

I am a recent VI convert.
ChiefDelphi.com is made 80% NOTEPAD and 20% vi.

I think doing the HTML by hand gives you a better understanding of the page, how its put together, and it only takes longer at first... once you get going with it- you fly!

Two comments:
1. I CAN code by hand, I just choose not to...therefore, I use frontpage if it is the best tool for the task at hand.
2. Personally, this comment seems just as 'out there' as somebody saying, 'one can only truely say they are a programmer if they can write in assembler,' which is not the case almost all the time. I know of very few programmers that can write in assembler.
