Build Schedules

Hi Folks,

We are trying to justify to our school system why we need all this time in the building to do the work of the build.

Can anyone share with me their Teams schedule? In other words, how much time does your team meet during the 6+week build period?

Thanks,

PM

Re: Build Schedules

1675 meets about 4 hours after school, 3-5 nights a week depending on how we are doing/what materials have come in. We also do 8-hour build days on Saturdays, or days that the students have off school and the teachers report.

I'd say about an average of 150-160ish hours for the whole season

Team 116 Epsilon Delta meets Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays from 6-10 PM, Wednesdays from 5-10 PM, and Saturday from 9 AM until around 7 or 8 or 9 or 10 PM during the build season. We shall probably add a few more hours next week. Life is wonderful!

Re: Build Schedules

1135 meets 3-6 two days a week, 3-7 one day, and 10-3 one day.

330 meets whenever someone with a key can be there, typically about 2-3 hours per night, almost every night, and all day Saturday and Sunday afternoons.

We spend about 4-5 hours per night Monday-Friday, and 8 or so hours on Saturday.

Re: Build Schedules

Tell your school that we work on ours every weekday 4-5 hours. Then in the last week, usually more and on weekends, so the others are about right-130 to 140 hours. You can never have enough time, especially now.

Re: Build Schedules

Our sponsor is gracious enough to donate space and workbenches for our team.
Our general schedule looks something like this:

Monday: 6:30pm to 9:30pm
Tuesday: 6:30pm to 9:30pm
Wednesday: 6:30pm to 9:30pm
Thursday: 6:30pm to 9:30pm
Saturday: 1:00pm to 6:00pm

Towards the end of the season, we tack on a few extra hours - Friday is added to the regular weekday schedule, Saturday hours are stretched, and voluntary Sunday hours are offered. This does not include Driver Training hours (who are put on a separate schedule at the appropriate time during the season) nor does it include the time that the students put in during their robotics class during the school day.

The students are responsible for their own schedules during the week, as homework, sports, and jobs interfere. However, we have between 1300-3500 man hours logged with all of our engineers, mentors, parents, and coaches for the build season. Once build season is over, a new schedule will be reformed to the needs of the team and will include Driver Training, pit practice, etc.

Re: Build Schedules

We live at the school, during the 6 week period. The school custodians see the students more than their parents do.

Seriously...

Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays we have the school from 5:15 - midnight or 1 am. We start out at the beginning staying only to 9 pm and then it gets later and later. Saturdays and Sundays are from 10 am to 1 am. We always have full access to the computer / technology rooms and the shop. By request we have the cafeteria (where our field set up is), the mini-auditorium which is used by the programming team, and a classroom for a study / team testing area. We have Mondays and Fridays off, until this coming weekend when we will work both Friday and Monday. (Sunday sometimes turns into an all-nighter leading to the Monday Holiday)

We have food brought in for the weekday evening meals, and all three meals on Saturdays and Sundays. We are always inviting the school custodians come and eat with us.

We do slow down after we ship the robot, but not much!

Re: Build Schedules

Thanks everyone,

That was very helpful. If there is more, please send them in.

Also any successful strategies you've used to get more time would be helpful.

Re: Build Schedules

Team 1523 meets T-W-TH from 6:00-8:00PM
Sat from 10:00AM-4:00 PM
Sun from 1:00-4:00 PM

So far, we have been getting things done using this schedule. Saturdays tend to run a little late. Today we should be testing a functional robot with about 15% to go on last minute design changes.

Re: Build Schedules

2077 and 1988 from wales Wisconsin both go from 2:30 to 8 or 9 (6 if there is not enough parts and stuff to work with) on the weekdays and then from 9-as late as our mentor can stay on Saturdays and then during crunch time we stay for Sundays as well

Re: Build Schedules

648's schedule goes as follows, but it is more of a general guideline.
Monday, Tuesday, Thursday: 6:00-8:30
Saturdays 9:00am-3:00pm
But as I said, it is more of a guideline. Generally most of the upperclassemen meet atleast a half hour to an hour early, and generally stay an extra hour or so untill the engineers kick us out. Yesterday for ex., we met over at the Milan HyVee at 6:30 for breakfast and were working by 7, and stayed untill 5:30-6ish where the people that stayed went over to the local KFC for some Buffalo Snackers. Towards the end of build, people stay later, and meet more often, we're meeting today for example from 1 till whenever we run out of stuff to do. Next weekend starts our test and media days where we unveil our robot at the mall to assign drive teams and gain publicity. This friday, depending on what still needs to be done, we will work untill 10 or so to make sure everything is done and working. Since we don't have school the following monday, programmers and drivers will meet from about 7 in the morning till 9 that night to iron out any problems that may remain and gain as much time on the stick as we can.
