How much time do you spend?

Our group works on the robot 3 nights a week from 5-9, 2 nights a week from 3:30 till 6ish and Saturday from 8am till 2 pm. Thats all the time the school will allow us to be in the building. They have this rule that you, even with a teacher, can only be in the building while there is a custodian present unless we want to pay to have the custodian in the building. Funny how it does not seem to apply when there is a sporting event.
SOOOO, what are your work hours?
Does your school support you very well?
Do you have to have someone in the school other than a teacher to have access?

Thanks

Re: How much time do you spend?

Our work hours are week days from 6pm - 9pm and 12pm - 5 pm on Sat. We sometimes have meetings on Sunday for anyone that wants to go. It's usually nice and quiet for the programming team to get some work done.

Our school supports our robotics program pretty well. They are our main source of funding and we've got shop setup at our school's auto tech lab.

We don't have that custodian rule thankfully. We can come and go pretty much at any time with a mentor/teacher.

Re: How much time do you spend?

After 3 weeks we moved the robot off of the school grounds to the main sponsor's building. This gave us longer hours to work on it but it did cause some problem. There must be sponsor employee mentor with the students at all times and the students can not use power tools due to liability issues (cordless drill is ok). The students do use the school shop to make/modify parts and then drive about 2 miles to the sponsor's building.

As far a how much time, it varies by student. Some quit right at 5:00 and others work until 9:00.

Saturdays are 9:00 am until ....

Re: How much time do you spend?

We work from Mon-Fri from 3:30 to 7:00 on average but more and more we've been staying to 9:30, 10:00. Saturdays we work for 9-6, and Sundays from 10-3. Weekends tend to be quieter so we get more work done.

Perhaps thats because sporting events generally don't take place indoors?

We formally spend only Wednesday nights from 7-9pm , and Saturday's 8am-4pm.
In Reality, a lot of us work every day of the week, and on Saturdays and Sundays from 8am-9:30/10PM.

Re: How much time do you spend?

Our team has lots of support from our school. During the week days our school has a rule that no one can be in the building after 3 am, until the next day of course. Our normal weekday build day is 5-11ish. Fridays are usually until 12am or after. Saturday is from 8 am until 10 pm and Sundays (optional) are 10am-7ish.

Every waking moment.

If I'm not working on the robot, I'm probably thinking about it

Re: How much time do you spend?

Unfortunatly, we are only able to meet 4 times a week for an hour and a half each time. We don't have anywhere other than school to build, and due to teacher meetings, teachers living far away, etc, that's all we can do. We can sometimes stay longer if we really need it, but usually that's all. I know I think about robotics considerably more than 24 hours a day though.
