Importing Teams in FTC Scorekeeper

Hello everyone,
I will be running the scoring server for the NYC FTC event. I have used the scoring software before during the recent NJ FTC event and also at a couple other scrimmages. While i have no programs using the program itself, one of the main problems i am having is importing teams into the program. I have tried both a regular excel spreadsheet and a csv file, however nothing is imported. I even tried using the template file found in the programs files folder and still no teams are being imported.I am using release 5 under windows xp sp2

Anyone have an idea on how to successful import teams into scorekeeper since i have heard that the NYC FTC event will have atleast 45-50 teams and thats just a bit too much to manually import myself

Thanks,
Shaun

Re: Importing Teams in FTC Scorekeeper

Shaun,

It should be a regular .csv file. Try uninstalling and reinstalling the software, and try again.

If that doesn't work, it's really pretty painless to import the teams by hand. You do not need to put in all of the information listed (like where the team is located) - just the information that your tournament organizers deem absolutely necessary, which may only be the team number. Even with 45-50 teams, this shouldn't take more than a half hour or so.

Best wishes,
Amanda

Re: Importing Teams in FTC Scorekeeper

Just a general question here:

My team ran the NYC FLL event last year. While I was not officially in charge of anything, I ended up having to battle with the scoring software given to us. I don't know if the FRC/FTC software is the same, but for FLL it was this huge, foreboding, complex, excel spreadsheet. This really didn't scale well (as we had 4 tables running at once, and 2 scorekeepers entering data into the machines), and pushed us to using paper for most of the score data transfer...

I was going to try and create a web-based system for next year's fll (local apache server). Can't FIRST create either a server-client based scoring system, or some sort of ad-hoc network? Or were we the only people to dislike the Excel system?

neutrino15,
the ftc software is totally different and easier to work with since there is no need to play around with any kind of excel system. Also in the ftc software is a server that works in ad-hoc mode meaning you can have one scoring system and another computer in the lan doing the displays

Re: Importing Teams in FTC Scorekeeper

Shaun,

It should be fairly painless. Are there any commas in the names of any teams or schools? That could screw up the import since the software uses commas as the separator between fields. If you want, send me a private message and I'll send you the one I use to import for NJ that you can test with or modify.

If you are working on the file in Excel, make sure that when you save, you tell excel to keep it in the original format.

George
