Why Counter-Clockwise? (Question for GDC and CD community)

Why do you think the GDC opted for counter-clockwise laps, rather than clockwise laps?

I have a guess, but try for yourself before reading it...
<highlight_to_read>
If the laps were clockwise, right handed drivers would need to push forwards and right at the same time when using 1 joystick control.
Turning left is easier on the wrist of right handed drivers.

</highlight_to_read>

What do you guys think about my idea?
Do you have better ideas?
Did they just toss a coin?
would anyone from the GDC care to shed some light?

I'm sure they did it because that is how most racetracks are done

Re: Why Counter-Clockwise? (Question for GDC and CD community)

Actually, if you think about where the operator stations are, it simply seems most convenient to keep last years operator stations in the locations they were in. In this way, we set up and start our robots directly in front of where the operator stations are.

American racetracks (auto and horse) are CCW. I believe European tracks are mostly CW. So it might be driving bias from real life. Though that might not be the true answer.

In America, cars drive on the right side of the road - what a coincidence that that is the same way that the Track is laid out.

Re: Why Counter-Clockwise? (Question for GDC and CD community)

One word "NASCAR"

I don't think it is a coincidence that we ship this week, and the NASCAR season starts on Sunday! No offense to NASCAR fans, but I like our "sport" much better!

Best regards,

Steve

Re: Why Counter-Clockwise? (Question for GDC and CD community)

Thats my answer.. To make it easier for the teams so they will only have to build a robot to turn only left.. Not really lol

It doesn't really matter. I think it just looks good when robots are going CCW rather than CW
