Full bumpers for CD5

Hi all,

This poll was requested by Joe Ross of Team 330.

We thought is was a pretty good question.

I will dish the dirt on CD 5 and tell you that we have put bumpers on all sides.

All that talk of 20 mph robots have spooked us a bit.

Based on the photos on the net, I have to guess that we are on the minority.

So...

The cat will be out of the bag soon enough. Why not vote in the poll and tell all on the Chief Delphi Forum?

Do tell.

Joe J

Is it realy 20 mph that people have been hearing?? Or 20 fps?? All numbers that I've heard have been in fps.. Cuz that number in mph just doesn't seem sane..

A 130 lbm robot with two 250 watt drill motors for drive will, under ideal conditions, accelerate from zero to just under 15 mph (~ 22 fps) in the length of the FIRST playing field, taking about 2.6 sec to do so.

If any robot can clock even 20 FT/SEC within the playing field boundaries, Joe will eat his hat - the prickly one from last year's Rumble. Won't you, Joe?

'The Treasure Of The Sierra Madre' is a Bogart movie in which a group of
prospecters strike gold and are trying to bring it out of Mexico without
having it stolen by banditos. The prospecters are surounded by banditos
who claim to be Federales (federal police) who demand that the prospecters
come out. The prospectors wisely demand to see their badges and one of
the banditos utters the famous line as he starts shooting.

WOW! What we learn at this site.
Its great, the wealth of information.

Lets start a trivia thread?

Have any trivia you want answered.

? Why did Jack and Jill go up the hill to fetch a pail of water? Why would a well like the book shows be on top of a hill?

I know the answer, is there anyone else that has it?

I will give the answer or confirm in a few days.

No Bumpers Here... too Much Weight

Nope. No bumpers here. We had some plans to put some on.... but we were sooo over weight that we even lost some of our agility, let alone add bumpers.

As far as 20 mph robots.... it looks like no one is quite there... we're only about at 8 mph, only when we really must be! I still think that there will be some 'bots around 10 mph. And I wanna see how they did it!

Laters,

We, like Joe J., were worried about collisions at 10 MPH, but we didn't have enought weight left to do full bumpers. We have one bumper in the back protecting the majority of our electronics.

There was much debate over weather to use a bumper, but that was settled by the scale. We had to lose a few motors to make weight, so there was definately no room for a bumper!
