Some things we found out at the 'Great' Great Lakes Regional:

1. The taped down pipe at the far end of the field was removed after practice day, and it never returned. No announcements were made about it, or whether it is gone for good or just for GLR. FIRST, any comments? My hope is that its gone for good, because all it does is get in the way (my opinion of course)!

2. The time you need to hang after power is shut off is at least 30 seconds. We had a match where this was an issue, and the head referee (who did a good job IMHO) said 30 seconds was the number he was looking for. No public announcements were made about this either.

3. Somebody told us that the radios MAY get better reception if the transmitter antenna has the same orientation as the receiver antenna. I have no idea if this is actually true, but I thought I would pass it on...

Ken - the announcer mentioned this rule on Friday! It was not repeated but the ruling seemed pretty consistant. My hat's off to the ref's - they did an outstanding job!

at the KSC regional the same thing happened. Gone for good? I think so.
Were the balls there sometimes more like footballs rather than basketballs?

Yeah! You could have played rugby with some of those balls. We were told by an official that they only measure at the seam for a 13 inch diameter, so that some balls may be as wide as 15 inches. Our practice balls were never more then 14 inches...

This is true, we had problems with our bot losing signal and jumping in the pits. It happened when we were getting inspected that the judge asked if we could turn the light off, and it kind of jumped at that point. When we moved the antennas so they were both pointed upwards, things worked out well. Also The interfernce from other radio modems around adds to this problem.
