Adding hinges and a door lock to the crate

Our crate, wood and screws alone, is at its maximum possible size. If we used door hinges and a door lock, and thus increase the overall size by an inch or two, is it legal?

I would say treat it like a robot size box.

You could put the hinges on the inside, which wouldn't increase size. Not sure what to do about the lock, though.
