Pat,

Here's some info for you:

I'm tring to recall how many points we scored during our Q matches, by ourselves.

For the seven matches, I think that we scored about 87 points. This includes ball, ramp & hanging points.

We hung once, were on the ramp all 7 times, and scored about 47 points in balls during the qualification matches.

I think that we ended up ranked around 45. Our record was 2-5... but MOST IMPORTANTLY, we won our last two matches. We were improving with each match, except during our 5th match when we were with the Circuit Stompers... sorry Stompers!

What we did at the end of the day Friday and on Saturday was market ourselves to everyone in a top-ranked position. These teams have a difficult time picking a partner, and you must go to them in order to get noticed... especially if you're a new team.

This 'marketing' teaches our students some important skills... especially if they want to be in sales!

Andy

Since our team was the one who picked #45 TechnoKats (we were only #9 seed, but two teams picked from within the top eight, so we got to pick), I think I can add something here...

We did not really care what the ranking of their team was. We were looking for some specific skills that we thought would make for a good elimination round strategy. Team #45 had those skills, in the opinion of some of our team members who were responsible for making the choice.

It didn't hurt that we know these people from past experiences, and that they have been to the top of the mountain (National Champs in '98, runner up in '99). BUT that was minor compared to our assessment of their robot's abilities. So I disagree with a previous comment that there are teams getting in 'by reputation' as opposed to 'by robot.'

We think we made a good choice, as the alliance only lost once when the TechnoBeast was on the field. Plus, when you pick the TechnoKats, they give a tshirt to the picking student )

Ken

Ken,

I think that we could use you as our marketing man!

Not only will we give away a t-shirt when we get chosen by a 'picker', but I'll also trade hats!

I'm into trading things for other teams' stuff: so far, I've got a 'Husky Brigage 2000' hat and a 'Baker Sportsware' shirt!

I've got my sights set on those really cool Truck Town Terror hockey jerseys... but I'm trying to think if I have anything cool enough for a trade.

Andy B.
