Smile IR board unlocked. Getting it to work.

Team 1896 had a rough start when it came to the IR board, but we finally figured it out. So, we decided to be nice and share our findings.

Here is how we did it:

The IR board itself is powerd from a standard DC 9-volt battery on pins 1 and 3. 2 and 4 are unused but you COULD use them to further secure your connections. Pins 1 and 2 are for positive battery input, while 3 and 4 are for negative battery input.

Then we ran the white(signal) cables from 4 PWM wires to pins 5-8 on the IR board, These carry the actual signal from the board.

The 4 leftover black and red cables of the PWMs that are connected to the Ir signal pins were ran together with there respective color. All 4 red wires ran to one single RED wire, and all 4 black wires ran to one single BLACK wire...

These RED and BLACK wires were then ran to the black and red wires of another PWM and that PWM was ran to a PWM output on the IFI board.

This output can then be set to 255 to make the IR board signal pins act as normally open switchs that are connected to digital inputs.

If you have any questions please feel free to ask.

Re: IR board unlocked. Getting it to work.

Don't you mean the "pwm" cables were connected to digital inputs on the robot controller?

The PWMs go from the IR boards pins to the digital inputs... and also from the PWM outputs to the digital inputs.

White cables come from the IR board....the red and black ones come from the PWM outputs.

Re: IR board unlocked. Getting it to work.

That seems like an odd configuration... Why did you do it this way? I'm don't follow where you connected the red wires and black PWM cable wires on the IR board. Did you also connect both Red and Black wires to a single PWM output on the RC?

Just a reminder... while this is fine for testing, it is not legal during the competition. Everything must be powered from either the main 12v battery, or from the backup battery (via either a PWM or analog/digital i/o port).
